When I completed my 160m RTTY WAS it was almost all on 1808, with the rest of the QSOs on or near 1838. However, there wasn't as much digital activity back then (2009-2010) as there is today. I would avoid the 1838-40 range as that's where the JT65, JT9 and PSK guys hang out and instead suggest the 1835-37 range for RTTY.

1800-1810 recommendation is from ARRL. Not regulation, just recommendation.
RTTY in this segment is very rare and almost all I have ever heard is the
centennial W1AW/portables. Many but not all W1AW/portable activations who
do 160M RTTY are sticking to the recommendation. Also in 1800-1810 you will
find some domestic CW. http://www.arrl.org/band-plan

Most EU entities have restrictions and aren't allowed below 1810.

There certainly is some multi-tone digital mode I hear a lot around
1835-1840, maybe JT65.

The reason I am asking that an experienced operator told me that RTTY mode

There is no FCC rule and I can't find any "recommendation" such as the DX
window
anyplace.

I am just wondering about the source of this 1.810 comment.

Are you asking because of the upcoming TARA RTTY Melee that seems to
include 160M?

Many band plans (e.g. ARRL's) show RTTY concentrating in 1.80-1.81.

I have 15 RTTY 160M QSO's in my log almost all from W1AW/portables this
year. They tend to cluster in 1.805-1.810 and 1.840-1.845. But with ARRL
160M going on in same weekend as TARA RTTY Melee, and how the entire
bottom
50-80 kc of 160M will be occupied for sure, those normally free spots will
be in high demand by CW contesters.
