Thanks to all for the correction of VE7BS's callsign.

ZL2BT was also my first ZL on the band - worked when I was still in W6 I
believe. I am not sure who Alex would have been on the W6 side. The first
person I was aware of working DX from California was W6NJU - who later
became KI6T. Gary lived just a couple of miles away from my QTH and had
enough space to put up a full sized antenna on 160. He came to our small
local contest club (West Valley ARC) and talked about all the DX he was
working and I was intrigued. This would have been around 1970 I think.

I do know that W7RM (SK) was active on 160 in 1970 based upon this entry
into HS5ABD's log - https://www.kkn.net/n6tr/160/HS5ABD-160.jpg. HS5ABD is
better known now as K3ZO now.

Too bad the K1ZM web page about W1BB is no longer up. That had a lot of
good reading. There are scans thanks to WA5POK of a CQ Magazine article
about Stew on the Stew Perry Topband DIstance Challenge web page that makes
interesting reading - www.kkn.net/stew just down a few paragraphs.

As for my "early" 160 story - you can read about it here -
https://www.kkn.net/n6tr/tbdisease.html

Am clearing off some trees on top of the hill of the new QTH to get my
"big" Steppir back up (three full length elements on 40) and load the tower
for 160. Hoping to have it and the Hi-Z 4 square back up before the
October contests come around. Have lots of room for beverages - so hoping
to phase some in the important directions as things evolve here. Will be
interested in any signal reports if you hear me on the band this season.

How many guys worked JA3ONB or JA7NI as their first JA on 160?
