Some myths die hard.
The ARRL still insists that Ufer grounds are a no-no (and if you look
into it, you'll realize that failure to utilize a Ufer ground could
cause the concrete to crack). If a Ufer ground ped does crack, it's
usually because the rebar or connecting wiring was placed too close to
the surface.
Similarly the ground wire up the tower. One can lead the horse to
water.... You're also dealing with the "we've been doing it this way
for thirty years..." syndrome. At least they're using 4/0; some
progress is being made.
Maybe they really meant to shunt feed the tower for 1830 kHz?
