Think of it this way: if you were to tighten the cable clamp so tight that
it pinched the cable in half, the U part would do the pinching because the
saddle part spreads the load out over more of the cable. Which part of the
cable would you rather pinch in two? The piece that goes nowhere or the
piece that holds your tower up?
So the U-bolt part goes on the tag end.
