I second the diagnostic approach suggested by Steve, K7LXC,
with one additional comment/question:

Isn't the Hy-gain EXPLORER a conventional HIGH BAND tribander, 
covering 10/15/20 meters?  I have NEVER heard of a tribander
covering 10/20/40 meters.
