Charlie,
 I should have said in my last post that most people have never seen a
thrust bearing in this rusted condition, if they recommend not lubing it.
Perhaps the newer bearings have ball bearings that are rust proof.
Anyway, sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck with your
installation.
