Hi Jon -

I made a sleeve to put between the barrel and the outer jacket
by cutting off a short piece (3/4 to 1 inch), cutting a 1/4 inch wide
strip out of it lengthwise, and squeezing it between the barrel
and jacket. Cut two slots in outer jacket and hose clamped.
Never did use penetrox or alno-ox but think that may be wise.

Some of these have failed....seems to get water inside, even
though taped with Scotch 33, then, when I hit the wrong antenna
with a full KW tuned on another band, it becomes a crispy critter!

My best results have come from connecting the braid to a ground
lug, clamping that to the jacket and wrapping the center conductor
of the flexible cable around the center conductor of the hardline.
The two lines are placed side by side and mounted vertically
with a plastic medicine bottle placed over top and wrapped in
tape to prevent uV deterioration. One such connection has
been in place for 17 years!
