Re whether or knot a wife can tie a gin pole rope to a tower section:  It's
a non-problem if YOU tie your favorite knot permanently on the end of your
rope, with a small loop in it to accept a shackle with threaded pin.  Then
all you have to do is show them once which tower diagonal you want the
shackle joined to prior to lifting.

Knot-tieing is a genderless issue... but important for safety.  If all your
varied groundcrew members use the shackle method, you eliminate the
hodge-podge and risk of different knots coming up at you.
