Congratulations on finding an AB-105C/FRC tower, one of the very best
towers for serious competitive hamming! I had a large quantity for sale
this summer, and all of it was sold after only one advertisement!
The installation you describe sounds like a classic military AB-105C/FRC
installation. The hinged base you described is standard, and the AB-105
was routinely raised and lowered with the help of a 30 foot tower used as
a gin pole. Safe removal could involve erecting a 30 foot Rohn 25 as a
gin pole (this involves many hours of preparation) or use of a crane.
Your truck idea sounds V E R Y dangerous! Alternatively, you could take
the tower apart piece-by-piece without laying it over! All of the pieces
can simply be dropped to the ground, except the legs which must be lowered
with a rope. Since your AB-105 is on a hinge base, be sure the guys are
very secure, otherwise it could fall over, injuring or killing you!
A "standard" 73 ft AB-105 installation consists of the following
sections, beginning at the hinge base: 3 ft, 2 ft 6", 5 ft, five 10 ft
sections, and two 6 ft sections.
AB-105 weighs 112 pounds per 10 feet.
