With a recent 89 foot crank-up project there were 6 runs of coax and 2
runs of control cables. It's a heckuva weight when the tower is extended.
The first thing I did was to brace the top coax sidearm with a piece of
angle aluminum diagonally as a brace from the standoff arm to the tower leg. A
bolt goes through the standoff and a U-bolt attaches the other end to the leg.
It's VERY strong while being light and cheap.
Kellem grips are used on each run to take the cable weight. The grip
loops hang on the standoff. The final step was to tape the bundle together
every 12-18 inches. When you're done, you've got a pretty stiff bundle that
will slide through the other standoffs with no problem. With that many cables,
the wind doesn't blow it around very much.
If you're still getting the cables blown around in the wind, put a little
tension on the bottom of the cable run. Use a bunge cord or something. Just
enough tension to prevent the wind problem.
