In my experience the rotary switch is a weak point in tuners, supposed to
handle 2-3 KW.

If they have not selected a good quality switch the rest is relatively
un-important from a reliability point
of view.

:
: Ameritron should be releasing a new tuner soon. I designed the tuner,
: and sent them the prototype a few months back.
:
: It features an edge wound silver-plated roller coil (measured Q~300
: the highest on the market!), gear driven turns counter, high
: capacitance in the caps (for better power handling on low bands), 3 KW
: TRUE peak reading (or average) meter, and other features.
:
: The unit should retail for about 550 bucks. That isn't cheap, but it's
: a very nice piece that easily handled 3 kW for hours on end during
: test sessions.
