Re: Guying Crank-Up Towers
Several people have correctly indicated that guying a crank up tower will
add additional vertical load on the cables which needs to be evaluated.
An intermediate step would be to guy ONLY the bottom section which
does NOT load the cables. The best way to attach such guys would be
to make a guying bracket which fits around the tower, similar to what
Rohn uses on their 25 and 45 towers. Be sure to attach it so that it
cannot slip down the tower! A heavy cable seems prudent here
(at least 1/4 inch EHS or larger).
IMHO, there is nothing stronger, safer, or more cost effective than a
properly guyed straight tower.
