Dick,

I used an R7 for four years until I got a tower and beam up. I worked just
over 200 countries with it. A couple of items that may be of interest to
you: I has to be in the clear for the SWR to be as advertised. I had mine on
top of a push up mast bolted to the side of the house (3 floors). It was
just above the peak of the roof at about 35'. I never suffered wind damage,
but an April ice storm the 2nd or 3rd year put a bend in the lower section,
about 10 degrees or so. It still worked fine. I don't think that antenna is
mechanically strong enough to put on an 80' tower, and putting it there
would be a real bear. I used a cherry picker to put it on top of the mast.
If I had it to do all over again, I would guy the antenna with non-metallic
guys as insurance against the freak wind and or ice storm.

Good luck,

Joe
