Funny story to pass along thing about Stainless. A certain K1 (formally a KH6)
told me once that a tower was put up in Hawaii using stainless hardware - very
nice! Unfortunately, the trade winds caused a continuous vibration til the
point where the tower actually collasped. The stainless, in this case never
seized and the nuts, bolts, etc. all got loose and fell out/off. The after
thought was maybe they should have used hardware that WOULD rust, so it would
stay together!! Ugly is okay if it keeps the tower in the air!

Bottom line here, some kind of annual inspection/maintenance program is a must
with towers.
P.S. - the story remains funny as no one was ever hurt at the time of the
incident - fortunately!

Regards,

Mark, K1RX
