Dan--

I think the discussion by K3LC of "Elevated Radials over Sloping Ground" on
p. 189 of Vol. VI of the ARRL Antenna Compendium will provide you some
interesting perspectives.

My 80M 4sq faces everything from uphill slopes to a clear shot over salt water
to the horizon from close to 200' altitude. To tell you the truth, I don't
notice that much difference.

Jim, VE1JF

RE: [TowerTalk] Verticals on Hill Tops?

Does anyone have any data, even anecdotes or just personal experience, about
using verticals and arrays of verticals with steeply sloped foregrounds?
Suggestions to buy terrain modeling software > /dev/null :-) (I have and
love YT, but it doesn't do verticals).

I am trying to decide whether to use verticals (probably a 4 square) or wire
beams (probably 2 elements at 50 - 70') for 80 meters. I am on the top of
an 1,800 foot hill that slopes down at about a 45 degree angle for 6000 feet
or so...

Thanks!
