There's an interesting article in the March 2003 issue of Occupational
Health & Safety titled "Will Your Safety Harness Kill You?". It deals
with a phenomenon known as "orthostatic intolerance" which can lead to
suspension trauma death. Worthwhile reading for anyone using harnesses
and those responsible for their rescue. It can be found at
http://www.cdc.gov/elcosh/docs/d0500/d000568/d000568.html and a number
of other related sites. This may have already been discussed on the
reflector, but I'm just now stumbling across it.
