If you don't, I bet this could be at the bottom of it.  They are designed to
sweat moisture out the bottom.  If you put the bottom up because you didn't
realize it was the bottom, then it's been retaining moisture.  I think a
freeze could crack and break ceramic if it had water soaked into it.
