Doh, must be early in the morning... You could put the spring loaded cord
reel on the far end of the L, assuming you've transitioned from the wire to
a nonconducting guy. Then it would be coiling the rope/guy/non-conducting
whatever. The mass of the cord reel would be held by whatever is holding
the far end of the wire (i.e. the ground).
