Surely there's a standard way these things are supposed to be erected? Or
is the user left to their own creativiy?

Dan,
Don't know if your concern is whether the typical ham is strong enough
to walk up 30 ft of this stuff or whether the mast is strong enough to
be walked up without damage. I presume it is the latter. I can't
answer your question directly but it would seem to me that you could use
an ordinary 20 ft extension ladder that extends when you pull on a rope
to push it up.
