Have been using a Gem Quad for about 30 years now. Both two and three
element versions. The 1979 manual is outdated and there has been changes in
wire length between the old and new manuals. Also, make sure you use the
correct diameter of wire otherwise the resonant frequency will be incorrect
when it goes into the air.
I would recommend a phone call during the week and speak to the owner's
wife. She can put the current manual on the internet for you. They are
very helpful on these things when you finally reach them. I believe the
owner has a full time job as only time I have talked to him has been on the
weekend.
Use your favorite search engine and you will find the home of Gem Quad on
the net and their current phone number.
Guys, spend a buck, make a call. Also ask what size diameter wire to use.
Important. When I spoke to him he suggested I go to local motor rewinding
shop and buy the wire which I did. Common size used in motor rewinding
shops. Soft drawn copper. Either #18 or #20 guage wire, but can't remember
which. That is what they send with the kit according to the owner. Sorry I
can't remember which size.
