I have a Thern Spur Gear hand operted winch, model 4311PB, which the brake unit
FELL OFF of, allowing the winch to free-wheel. This is an almost-new winch, and
it appers that the manufacturer left off a cotter key which is supposed to hold
the brake unit on. If you have a Thern winch inspect it carefully before
trusting your tower, or your life, to it.
