I think I would epoxy the pier pin in the hole, or seal it some
other way, just to keep out the water.  The water that might
enter around the pier pin could freeze and over time start
to damage the concrete.  And there is potential for rust on
the pier pin which could also damage the pier pin itself if it
spends a lot of time sitting in a water-filled hole.

But then I am a belt and suspenders guy!
