Oliver Swan did some work that forever changed the definition of what is a
log and what is a tri-bander. The bulk of his work was on VHF but he
adapted it for KLM. Several tri-banders outside of KLM/M2 use the log cell.
The ultimate log cell tri-bander is the KT34XA (or now the 36XA).
This antenna when introduced in 1970 was a real break through.
K6MYC at M2 is trying to figure out how to add 17 and 12 to the KT36XA I am
told. You do run into the log problem of more elements for the same gain
once you start adding more bands to a basic tri-bander with a log cell. The
TH11Dx is a good example of this.
