I have had 80' of 55 up without guys or antennas in a coastal county south
of Houston for years. (Maybe I'll finish it in 2005! :-)

A ham here in the Houston area had 50 feet of Rohn 45 freestanding for years
with a small tribander on top. It never failed even in high winds. I would
not trust 80 feet even without antennas, but you could probably get by with
a single set of guys at 40 feet.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a good idea.
A Rohn 55G at 80' freestanding first section in 6'6'4(deep) concrete pad.
The owner of the property does not want any guy wires.
We are in a 90mph area, and I would suspect 1/2" ice.
The use of this tower would be for small antennas (vhf).
Thanks
Geoffrey
