I use WD-40, or Kroil.
I purchase WD-40 in gallon cans rather than the spray cans and use a small
"oil can" as an applicator. Give the joints and screws a shot, let set a
good 24 hours and then if necessary another shot.
I don't think there is any "sure fire way" as some times Aluminum just galls
and the two pieces become one, but usually the Kroil, WD-40, or "Mouse Milk"
which is a real, but expensive product, work well.
