I was thinking something like that, too.
Having lived in "gated communities" twice in my life, I vow, "never again!"
The inconvenience, even without deed restrictions, is much too large for me.
The gates will never keep out criminals (nor do locks, doors or windows) but
do prevent friends and relatives from ever dropping in for a birthday
suprise or similar event, and do add time to how long it takes to simply
leave and access your own home. Sometimes, there's a line at the "gate,"
and if I want to come and go 20 times a day, as I often do, this can add
20-40 minutes a day to my aggravation time.
Not worth it.
No more gates!

Gated communities do not keep common folks like me away from them, but
