But a reputable PE might be able to take advantage of local
conditions. The manufacturer's "suggested installation" has to accomodate
all comers and is kind of compromise design. You might be able to do a
detailed analysis and come up with a way to "solve the problem" that isn't
exactly what's already in the mfr's book.
That peace of mind is what the $500 fee for the engineer pays for.
