I had my builder install a Leviton model 51120-1 whole-house surge
protector. It mounts on the wall next to the service panel. It features
L-L and L-N protection based on MOVs and has two diagnostic LEDs. It is
located about ten feet from the shack and I have not observed any RF
susceptibility problems.

Can't say with certainty that it has protected me during a surge event, but
in rural New Mexico we get heavy lightning storms and have frequent power
outages. After three years, so far so good.

When shopping around look for certification to UL1449 and a multi-year
warranty (Leviton's is 10 years).
