3ft is nothing (in terms of the pattern) at 80m...  (more precisely, it's 
1/80th of a wavelength).  You've got other things that will have larger 
effects (nonuniform ground properties, etc.).

3ft is NOT nothing in terms of antenna length BTW.. it will change the 
impedance somewhat (on the order of a few percent) which will change the 
coupling on the order of a few percent, which, in turn will change the 
phasing a few degrees.  No big deal on forward gain, but enough to trash a 
30dB null.
