I have developed a simple method to accurrately measure signal strength
difference vs time of two HF signals.
This method can be used to check signal strength difference between two
antennas or stations/sites.

On the transmitting side you need two CW transmitters which may be
colocated (eg to test two antennas) or not (eg compare two stations)
On the receiving side you need a regular SSB receiver and a PC with a
sound card running any of the popular recording software programs

What you get after analyzing the recorded audio file is a plot of signal
strength difference between the signals (accurrate to +/-1 dB) vs time.

It has worked great when tested with local range signals, but its main
use is when the signals' amplitude is not constant so that the usual
receiver+step attenuator method cannot be used. You can accurrately
compare different antennas in same station (eg high vs low antenna) or
how signals from two different stations compare at the DX-end.

I need distant correspondents to check the method with fading signals.
They can be either be the TX end (then they need two CW TXs) or the RX
end (then they need to have a PC with sound board hooked to rhe RX and
recording software)

If you are interested, please contact me directly.

Juan EA5RS
