Hi Denny,

I don't know how they'd work in your layout, but I've have very good luck 
with the Logitech cordless keyboards and mice.  There is a USB IR 
source/sensor for each computer and the cords for those are 4' long.

I'm using two here in the main shack/den with no interaction. The third is 
out in the shop where the environment is not quite as clean with lots of 
dust (even with a whole shop filter)

The older mice use a pair of AAs while the newest uses a rechargeable.

I have to change batteries in the keyboards about every 3 or 4 months, while 
those in the mice only last a month or two.

I think they have 3 or 4 different models.  I've gone with the 
top-of-the-line, but unfortunately they changed the layout so I have two the 
same and one where the special function keys are different. The main layout 
is the same.

It might be worth a try.
