Is it OK (i.e., feasible, safe) to start tilting over a UST tilt-over 
crank-up with the tower still somewhat extended (e.g., an HDX-555 still 
10ft above its lowest position) -- and also to extend it by 10ft or so 
again before it gets back to vertical?

Without going into detail, the reason would be to clear a tree. The 
alternatives would be to trim the tree somewhat drastically or to try to 
synchronize turning the antenna and tilting the tower.
