Rigid aluminum conduit would work real nice and more than strong enough for
a 1 RPM app like this.
This would be light weight in 2 inch and easy to find in most large
electrical supply houses. Come in 10 or 20 ft lengths, and with some of the
other great ideals that have been written about coupling it up should make
this easy to take apart for repairs. The below link I hope you find useful.
