I was saddened to hear of Joey's accident. Fortunately real tower
accidents are few and far between.

THE MOST DANGEROUS TOWER ACTIVITY YOU CAN DO IS TO TAKE DOWN A TOWER
THAT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT! Joe Rudi, NK7U, also had an accident recently in
the same scenario. I'm sure there are more we don't hear about.

A previous post about inspecting everything was very good. But there's
probably a reason why you have a gut feeling about something not being right
sometimes. If there's ANY doubt in your mind, walk away from it. I've done
that several times myself and have never regretted it If you're still
interested
in getting it down, call in the pros.

The best thing to do is to get a two- hook crane in there. That way the
crane can run you up in the man-basket with one hook to attach the slings to
the top of the tower with the other hook, then you get lowered off and the
second hook can pick the tower up. I've done this with 100' 25G towers with no
problem. Since someone has to be at the top of the tower to rig it for
lowering, this is the way you do it so you don't have to climb it. In both
cases
there was NO WAY I was going to climb those towers.

Cheers & climb safe,
