Real aircraft cable is NOT stainless steel. I am an A&P and own aircraft and
have replaced several cables. They were not SS.\
I would rig my plane with SS if I was around salt water.

You have to be careful with names as the retailers aren't. Real
"aircraft cable" is SS. SS is not as strong, or more properly I should
say, most steels are stronger than SS. Galvanized steel cable comes in
many grades. SS is tough and corrosion resistant, but it is soft and
not as strong as most steels. Galvanized steel has long life and
  generally is stronger than SS

Be careful with wire rope, particularly that made up locally. Make sure
it has the proper strength. I've seen 3/16ths and 1/4 wire ropes with
strengths varying by a factor of 3 or more.
