I have a cap on my pickup truck and bought a set of the foam blocks they sell for moving a boat on the roof. I simply snap the 4 foam blocks onto the mast section, and fasten it down to the bumpers and the frame between the cab and bed. I have moved pcs up to 20 to 25 feet this way.
