Instead of a trap, I use a modified relay as described in
my article in May 2009 QST hinks and kinks.  Besides not having to go
to the trouble of building a trap, this has the advantage
of greater bandwidth.

If you aren't going to use the vertical in an array, you can
operate a 160 meter vertical on 80 meters without using a trap
or relay.  However, you will need a matching network for 80 meters.
I have also done this.  I would say the relay is probably the easiest.
