Something to be considered when buying a winch ( that's WINCH ) is the
LIFTING weight and not just the PULLING or dragging weight it is rated for.
There is a considerable difference. Also, some of these types of winches
are great at pulling IN or RETRIEVE of the cable, but do they offer a
powered OUT or RELEASE of the cable? The cable must be under control in both
directions. ( CW and CCW ) Many do not. They are made for applications, for
example on a boat trailer where you need to be able to pull the boat to the
trailer, but the cable can then be released with no braking power on the
released cable. A good MOTOR will also be a TEFC type or totally enclosed
fan cooled. This is not to say that what you are looking at might not work,
but I will be very careful when making your choice. '73 and good luck. -

Has anyone replaced the 1500 pound Fulton Winch, used in the LM-70
tilt-over system, with an electric winch..?? There are a number of 2500
pound, ATV system that look like they could do the job...???

Like the : Keeper Corporation KT2500C Trakker 1.34-horsepower Electric
Winch - 2,500-Pound Capacity

The KT2500 is equipped with 50 feet of durable 3/16" (would change to
1/4").. aircraft-grade galvanized wire rope that winds onto a sturdy
drum-centric design. A 1.34 horsepower 12-volt DC motor and 3-stage
planetary all-metal gear train provide excellent pulling speed and
power. The dual mechanical and dynamic braking system is designed to
stop and hold the fully loaded cable, keeping it where you need it until
you are ready to move again. The KT2500 also has a built-in circuit
breaker, protecting the winch and your equipment if a voltage change or
short circuit should occur. Color-coded wiring and detailed instructions
make do-it-yourself installation easy.
