If you use BIG coax (RG8, RG213), the loss on 80 and 160M is VERY small, 
even with a fairly high SWR. Unless you're tuning an vertical that's 
exactly a half wave, you can use a good tuner in the shack. I've done 
that with a vertical, and it worked fine.  The Ten Tec 229 and 238 
tuners are good for this application.
