    Yep. And smart crank-up owners as well.  Silicon spray is probably an 
acceptable cable lubricant. Yes, you want it to  soak in and not leave a 
coating that will attract dirt and grit.

    Of course when it comes to things that are  manufactured, it's always a 
matter of cost. The only potential problem with  SS cables is that they can 
gall, which deposits pieces of material due to  friction and creates kinks 
in the cable.
