My TIC controllers will not turn if the pot is bad, neither will the Green
Heron. Sometimes it would be nice to turn it anyway. I guess it is possible
with the G.H., but I have never tried the override feature.

I use Green Heron controllers, too. One of the most important features is
that by default the motor will be shut down if the controller doesn't detect
movement (you can override this at your own risk.) The stock TIC controller
doesn't do this, so if the pot fails the antenna can windmill. At least,
this was true on some models of the controller -- I don't know if that
problem has been fixed in more recent TIC controllers.
