Yesterday, during the process of linking my two Yaesu rotators to
computer control through ERC, I suddenly found that one of them (a
G-1000DXA) was turning much more slowly counter-clockwise than
clockwise. After scratching my head a bit, I swapped rotor cables
between the two controllers to make sure it wasn't a controller problem.
Imagine my surprise when everything worked normally, not only with the
swapped cables but also when I put them back as before.
My theory is that these rotators are sensitive to any resistance in the
path between the direction potentiometer and the controller, and that
the plugging/unplugging wiped off some oxidation inside one of the Molex
plug/jack combinations on the back of the controller. I've seen
something similar in the past with the Jones plugs at my entry panel,
where a little CAIG conductivity juice made all the difference in
restoring normal operation.
