In addition to YW, using a shorted shunt with a Smith chart has also
produced reasonably good predictions for me.   About 450 ohm shunt impedance
on the chart seems to work pretty close for 1/4 inch rods on 6" centers.

YW, included with the ARRL Antenna Book DVD, also handles hairpin match
design and optimization.
