My way to "get rid" of the capacitor was to alter the length of the elements. 
By making them slightly longer you introduce a capacitance at the feeding point.


I never liked to have a capacitor in the open as they will be affected by 
weather-and-wind.

Thanks for your email. It's good to know that others are experimenting with 
this type of antenna. I have very fond memories with this antenna from way back 
in the 80's in Bulgaria when we built tons of them and they consistently 
demonstrated killer performance. 
 
  
 
 
Strangely, we didn't use a capacitor in the feed system. Tell me a bit more- 
what kind do I need to run legal limit? I size all my stuff for 5KW as I am a 
RTTY contester and absolutely want to make sure components can take the heat.

the HB9CV, to me, appears to be the best gain/material factor antenna. i never

My first thought,reading your mail, is that you should not use regular coax 
cables for the phasing line as the dielectric will change the phase angle, 
something that might be detrimental to the gain and F/B ratio. It might not 
even be necessary to shield the different phase line from each other.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with building a 3 band HB9CV on a
shared boom. Basically, 3 separate antennas nested into each other- 20m, 15m,
and 10m.  My thought is to use coax for the phasing lines and a non-conductive
boom so that there is no feed/phase line interference.

The antenna will be
fixed and suspended by ropes so the non-conductive boom is not a structural
issue.

Thoughts?
