What do you mean when you say "doublet?" Do you mean a dipole? ANY antenna operated on a frequency higher than its resonant frequency will have lobes and nulls. In the lobes, the gain may be greater than the broadside gain at resonance. This is a simple antenna concept that we should have learned by studying any text on antennas, like the ARRL Antenna Book.
