Hmmm... I'm not sure where I got the idea it was stranded with a steel core.?? It still should work fine through HF, but the bending radius might be limited compared to RG-400, which is what I use. I think RG 400 is almost the same as 8X except for the voltage rating, flexibility, and price.

It clearly depicts the center conductor as solid in their cross sectional 
diagram.  The only silver plated copper
strands are the  two braids.   I wonder how much this stuff sells  for ?
