Also beware of vendors selling that shiny red/black zip cord -- the copper is often several gauges smaller than it's advertised, with thicker than usual insulation. And zip cord is a terrible choice for power and loudspeaker wiring, because it's a sitting duck for RFI.

FAR better to use twisted pair, which is much harder to buy but easy to roll your own. Simply buy lengths (or spools) of black and white stranded THHN, stick one end of both conductors in a hand drill, the other end in a vise, and run the drill slowly for a while. Let the twisted conductors sit overnight in the drill and vise. They will try to untwist, but letting them sit minimizes that. The twist will not be perfectly uniform, but it will be plenty good enough.
