Hello All,

Thank you for the suggestions.

The RG-59 that I am using defiantly has a copper shield. It does not have a
foil shield. Solder also wetted the shield fairly easy. Since I was using
a small blow torch, I did not detect any cold solder joints either. I also
used SN62 for the solder which contains about 2% silver. There are no
commercial radio stations near here. Used a Rig Expert and a Comet antenna
analyzer for the measurements.

This all started because the original dipole that was up "rattled." When it
was tested, the dipole tuned up to 1:1.5 at 50 ohms with the same antenna
analyzers, but when the dipole element was moved, the SWR went all over the
place. The connection at the balun was secure and the balun made noise when
shook so the balun was replaced. Since the original dipole had been made
with #20 wire, which made the ATU search when the frequency was changed by
a few khz, we figured that by using RG59 and shorting the outer shield to
the center conductor, that this would increase the bandwidth. Next
Tuesday, I will but a Bird inline and pump some power into it and will
report back.

There was a report of the same results from another local ham when using
RG59. I have in the past used RG58 and have had not problems with tuning at
all.

Suggestions?
