Sometimes you just need to RTFM. 

I used RG6 for the sense lines for the reed switch as the manual suggests on 
long runs and all is good. 

The antenna now turns 360 and the degrees on the controller match my eyeball 
estimate of the compass direction. Actually I’m lucky because I have a N/S 
fence to line up. 

Thanks for all the suggestions, I’m sure they will come in handy when my clamp 
starts to slip or the center bolt comes loose, etc. 

Now I need to go and run some radials for my 160 inverted L so I can work VP6R
