Our town uses the term "accessory structure", and towers are accessory
structures. Not sure what our homeowners policy says, but the lightning
damage was covered (at least it was 13 years ago...)

Insurance is all about definitions and exclusions.

If your town considers ham radio towers - auxiliary structures - like many
do, then your insurance should cover it to the extent it covers auxiliary
structures. Unless the insurance policy itself excludes radio towers or
antennas.

However, if your town does not define your tower as an auxiliary structure,
you may want to call your agent for a definition check.
